A few minutes’ drive south of Opotiki, Marawaiwai Walk is an ideal family outing. The track follows a stream through a lovely tract of kahikatea forest, with a wide range of native flora and birdlife. There’s parking, and picnic facilities.

> Get there: Head south from Opotiki on SH2. Turn onto Warringtons Road, then onto Harrison Road.
