The climate of the coastal Eastern Bay of Plenty is amongst the sunniest in New Zealand. Here’s what to expect in Ōpōtiki.
- Summer (December-February) daytime high temperatures are usually between 20 and 26 degrees centigrade.
- Spring (September-November) and Autumn (March-May) daytime high temperatures are usually between 15 and 24 degrees.
- Winter (June-August) daytime high temperatures are usually between 11 and 16 degrees, though inland, morning frosts down to about -3 are common.
- In summer, rain tends to fall in short, sharp bursts. In winter, there’s typically a wet or cold day or so, but seldom a long period of wet weather.
- Apart from around the equinox (mid-March and mid-September) winds are generally light. However, winds up to about 60kph do occur several times a year.
