Ōhiwa Harbour Trail
Ōhiwa harbour is just 15 minutes’ drive from Ōpōtiki and offers you a great walk, run or ride around the harbour’s edge. You can spot numerous bird species from weka to herons, and in some seasons, dotterels and godwits.
The harbourside trail extends 6km from the Ōhiwa Beach Holiday Park to the boat ramp on Ōhiwa Loop Road. An alternative for walking or running is to head over the hill via Onekawa Te Mawhai Regional Park to Bryans Beach and back along the stunning Ōhiwa Beach. For further details see the Hikes & Walks Out East brochure.
> Get there: Take SH2 (Waiōtahe Beach Road) to the bridge at Waiōtahe, turn onto Ōhiwa Beach Road, and head over the hill to the harbour.
