Reo Rua
Reo Rua is a commitment to biculturalism
Aotearoa Reorua is a nationwide initiative that supports towns and cities across Aotearoa, New Zealand to become bilingual centres (and in partnership with iwi) create more spaces, places and opportunities where te reo Māori is seen, heard and celebrated alongside the English language.
It is an approach to biculturalism focused on expressions of te reo Māori, culture, values, design and art specific to a rohe (district).
As a community, Ōpōtiki has a cultural confidence led by Whakatōhea, which feeds and grows an increasing desire for visible biculturalism. Join us in incorporating the beauty of these two cultures, as equal and valued pillars of our community.
What does Reo Rua look like?
It is signage, it's the use of te reo in workplaces, businesses and stores - whether spoken or in reports, emails, websites and advertising, right through to social media and events with bilingual MCs.
It is VISUAL, AUDIABLE and above all, it celebrates CONNECTION.
As we move further along our Reo Rua journey we will share more about our projects and developments with you.
